Dim Sum Stories – Gooooogled Out, Homeless China Chic and Coca-Cola Pandas

Goooogled Out

The Google saga has been running for weeks, but I got bored and Gooooogled out a long time ago. Every news station, newspaper and blog has covered the story to death. From politicians, journalists to amateur armchair activists, the story has been reported from every angle. However, for the last word on this topic I found Stir Fried China’s video a welcome light relief.  Very funny and all you need to really know. Thanks Chad.

Homeless China Chic

The fashion industry often gets bad press (and rightly so) for promoting an unhealthy view of what women should look like. Using underweight anorexic models or creating fashion collections around controversial subjects like ‘heroin chic’ or most recently ‘homeless chic’. Well, now China has a real homeless chic hero, who has been causing a sensation on the blogs in China. However, homeless chic might be OK on the runways of Milan, but it’s no fun being homeless in China.

Xi Li Ge or Brother Sharp, a homeless man in Ningbo becomes internet sensation

Does this man look like a beggar to you?
This is a picture of a homeless guy who has been roaming the streets of Ningbo, Zhejiang province in China.
With his tattered clothes, lost gaze and dirty locks, he is now one of the most searched-for figures on the Internet, reported Mingpao.com
Since the first picture of him was posted on the Internet a week ago, he has since gained a following and was elevated to a celebrity status.

Coca-Cola Pandas

When people think of China they often think of pandas and when people think of America they often think of Coke. So interestingly two of China’s most iconic pandas have now been adopted by America’s iconic Coca-Cola. They have even changed their names to Lele and Meimei, which mean happiness. It’s a great initiative but I don’t expect we will ever see them drinking the product ;-)

1st twin pandas born after Sichuan quake ‘adopted’

CHENGDU – The first pair of twin panda cubs born after the devastating May 2008 Sichuan earthquake in southwest China’s Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Base were “adopted” by a commercial sponsor Wednesday. Coca-Cola Greater China has pledged to provide lifelong financial support to Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Base for the care of the pandas.
